These are good times for techno. There’s been a real resurgence in artists going for dark or industrial sounds. What’s more, artists such as Untold are bringing over expertise from the “post-dubstep” scene, encouraging producers to do something different. To me, the most interesting aspect right now is the likes of the Zenker brothers using varied percussion in their tracks, belying the 4/4 framework which still pervades the genre. So then, this is my take on what techno sounds like in 2013...
